#9 Australia

For Australia Night, we made 4 things:

  1. Aussie Burgers, which are like regular cheeseburgers, but with a slice of beet, a slice of pineapple ring, bacon, and a fried egg on them. Our Australian friend Annie made these for us three years ago, ands they’re great.

  2. Vegemite-glazed potato wedges. We consulted this recipe, but decided that a wedge shape would work better as a side with burgers, and that we could leave them unpeeled.

  3. A Pavlova, which is a huge meringue served with whipped cream and fruit on top. It’s like eating a cloud. It’s amazing.

  4. Fairy Bread, which is apparently just white bread with butter and sprinkles on it. This was okay. Like eating white toast with butter and crunchy sugar on it. The best part about making this dish was learning that Australians call nonpareil sprinkles “hundreds and thousands,” which is also what I will call them going forward.

We also drank Cooper’s beer and ate Australian red licorice and Violet Crumble. It was a great night.
